Different doesn’t always mean ugly. Meet beautiful living examples of eye-catching difference with Lara and Mara Bawar.
The 11-year-twins from São Paulo, Brazil, have albinism—a disorder in humans characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes.
However, you won’t find them shying away or hiding from the public due to their condition. In fact, they embrace it head on!
In 2016, Vinicius Terranova, a Swiss photographer living in São Paulo, spotted the Bawer twins’ unique features. She started a personal project known as Flores Raras (“rare flowers”) by photographing the twins. Terranova included the twin’s older sister, Sheila, who doesn’t have albinism to show the world the beauties of diversity.
The three sisters have since modeled for Nike, Insanis, Bazaar Kids, and many other local and international brands. They also have strong 117k+ followers on Instagram.
